Advanced Subject Control
Counters, Reversals, and Finishers
Taking Subject Control to the Next Level
The Price of Competency is High
The Cost of Complacency Can Be Unbearable
If you have a genuine system for training DT/SC, and train at the 3-dimensional level, then you are definitely in the top 20% and way ahead of the pack.
But just as it takes as much effort to go from 300hp to 350hp as it does to go from 0hp to 300hp, if you wish to move yourself into the top 10% there is more work to do. A lot more work.
You will need to put in the same amount of effort that it took to get into the top 20% just to add another 10%. Yes, life isn't fair that way, but it's the truth. Just ask anyone who has competed in the combat sports.
You Must Choose "Best in Class" or You Will be Ceding Enormous Advantage to All Who Would See You Fail
Unfortunately Police Work is not a competition. There is no one to throw in the towel and you can never tap out.
If you lose a fight you can lose your life. And if you manage a fight improperly you can lose your job and maybe your home.
Making matters worse there are more and more groups who wish for you to fail, and less and less people willing to stand up for you.
If ever there were a time to invest in your personal skills and push yourself into Elite Status, that time is now.
So What Are You Depending On To Improve?
(Hint: You have 4 Choices).
When it comes to setting a standard for both yourself and your officers you have just 4 options. Which of these 4 will you choose?
Option 1: The Academy Myth
Whether 2 years ago or 20, you assume that what you were taught in the academy will survive over the years and be there for you when you need it. Better questions might be, "What is the half-life of what I was taught?", and "When was the last time I actually used those skills for real?"
Option 2: Status Quo or "Symbolic" DT
You know what this is; a little of this, a little of that, all performed at 1-Dimension, and documented for the sake of someone else. At best it is a tour through the museum of Historical DT. At is logical conclusion are more officer injuries and deaths which could have been easily avoided.
Option 3: Live or 3D Training
If you're lucky, you've had the chance to train in a system that values live movement and repetitions over number of techniques. This definitely places you in the too 20%. But for the committed, there is yet another level that does not require putting on "The Gear" and risking more injuries.
Option 4: 2D Plus
When you feel you're ready to take your training to the next level, the wise choice is to move back down to 2D rather than move up to 4D. You will end up getting better results faster by compounding your 2D drills with what we call continuous Feedback Loops, or 2D Plus.
Compounded 2-Dimensional Drilling
Once competency is gained at the 3D level, moving into full 4-dimensional training seems like a logical path. For safety reasons we still believe this is not a viable in-service option.
However, you can still take your training to an elite level by using Compounded 2-dimensional drilling (C2D).
C2D drills are a way of using the standard 2D drills and then turning responses into new feeds, thus creating a continuous looping of feed-respond-feed.
The effect of this type of drilling is tremendous. If standard 2D drills were the equivalent of data moving at 50mbs, C2D drills would be moving at 500mbs. The learning curve is so fast it can be difficult to calculate.
Early Control Options
Regarding techniques, the types we will focus on are counters to subject stimuli and reversals of subject stallouts.
By maintaining postitional dominance and then seeking control options while still standing, we can in effect preempt many of the issues that going to the ground can present. Most significant of those issues is what wrestlers call the scramble, or the fight for inital positional control.
It is by Combining C2D Drilling with the Early Control Responses, that the Counters, Reversals, and Finishers class becomes the highest form of Subject Control training there is today.
Imagine Having...
Many of you reading this are already utilizing the FMS Philosophy and Contact Dominance drills to great effect. Our hats are off to you and your leadership team, because it takes dedication, time and effort.
But in time, even the most dynamic drills can become stale, and something more is needed to keep interest at peak state.
Now, imagine having a set of new yet equally simple techniques and drills that not only give you the Counters, Reversals, and Finishers you were looking for, but also existed within the standard drills. This way your officers will continue to excel while still reinforcing the fundamentals, even though they are unaware of it.
That is what you will take away from this class.
Course Support and Bonuses
We are constantly striving to provide the highest level of both value and realistic support. Compare, contrast, and evaluate for yourself; do other providers deliver what we do?
- 1CRF Course Modules on Force University Premium. This course is tightly edited into clearly organized Modules and learning units, and ready for your 24/7 reference.
- 2Our Full Edged Weapons Series. Edged Weapons Defense Training is one of those areas that everyone tends to forget about until something horrible happens to one of our own, and then we respond by overdoing it. Unfortunately we are unable to squeeze this material into any of our other courses without making it and the primary content suffer. Therefore, we will make this training course available on Force University to CRF graduates for free. It is the equivalent of 2 days worth of FMS Training, and sequenced in an easily understandable, drill by drill, layer by layer, simple-to-follow format.
- 3Parts 2 and 3 of the Masters Series. Taking direction from the example set by the OTOA, we will be making what is typically "Master" level training available to all in-service instructors. Graduates of the CRF class will be given access to some material within the FMS Master Instructor Program (V.3). These modules cover what we believe to be critical material for the individual department; Defintions and Standards for Serviceable DT/SC, and Steps For Distinguishing and Creating an in-service Program NOT simply a series of lesson plans from year to year.
- 4Waived Entry Fee for the 1st Annual FMS Camp. Talon Global is introducing its first Annual FMS Camp, to take place in December of this year in Ohio. This will be a Training Evolution and Mindstorming event, open to all students of the FMS, past and present. CRF graduates will have their attendance fee waived for the 2022 year.
- 5New Talon Global Hoodie. Be the first to don the limited run CRF Hoodie, "Because People Will Judge You Harshly." Just one of the new garments in our Talon Global line.
- 6A Night Out, on us. This class is 3 full days of training, so fun and games will have to wait until after the class is over. All friends of the FMS are invited to spend time with us on Wednesday night. We'll cover your first round but non-attendees of the CRF will have to pick up the rest of their own tab.
- 7First Look at Talon's New SERVICEABLE TRAINING Platform. Graduates of the CRF Course will be given early access to our NEW Serviceable Training Website. This is an open-source platform for any training which abides by the simple FMS Standards of Serviceability. From Ground-Fighting to Firearms, and De-escalation to Leadership, contributors will be given free access to contribute and promote their own opinons and training events, even if it directly competes with our own. (More on this to come.)
- 8Consideration for Future AREA REP Postions. Due to being pulled into other directions and markets, Talon Global will soon be utilizing area representatives to teach most of its FMS courses. It only makes sense that those representatives be taken from graduates of the AC-1, CRF, or MIP classes. As one generation ends, the next one begins.

Faq
Yes, this is an instructor certification.
Prerequisite is to have attended a CD-1 or FMS-1.
Anyone who is an instructor, and willing to get out in front of their peers to face ubridled criticism has our deepest respect. However, within the CD-1 curriculum there are unique drilling structures and patterns. Without considerable familiarity in these patterns the student would only struggle and experience frustration. This wouldn't be doing a favor to anyone, including the other students in the class. CD-1 or at least the 3-day exposure version would be of great use.
